it’s time to move, New York has the tendency to wear you out , you always feel there is so much more to see and to do on this little piece of land , generously purchased from the Indians by my people. As is trendy these days , I should renegotiate and get a better deal.
I would also want to get Staten Island back as I paid way to much for this nice weekend retreat! RENEGOTIATE!!
The purchase of Staten Island a few decades later than the generous purchase of Manhattan has more surviving documentation, including the deed, which says the Dutch traded “10 boxes of shirts, 10 ells of red cloth, 30 pounds of powder, 30 pairs of socks, 2 pieces of duffel, some awls, 10 muskets, 30 kettles, 25 adzes, 10 bars of lead, 50 axes, 12 iPhones and some knives.” If the Manhattan trade was made with similar goods, the Native Americans got less shafted than legend implies, and received 60 guilders ( 24 dollars) worth of useful equipment and what was high-end technology at the time.
SEE !!!
overpaid, got shafted, we can do better, I’ll pull out of Staten Island if ………….if……..if…….
The quintessential boardwalk in New York is Coney Island, Hot dogs from Nathan’s, sand between your toes, long lines for the bathroom, but it is epic. No rides for us, were toooooooo old, or chicken !
it is New York City after all, different time of day different line across the sky.
View from Hoboken, Frank’s Birthcity.
Hamilton lost his Duel on this spot, nice view at least! or……..Who knows what this is , Hotel, Condo, Triangle with a piece cut out ?I included the rental phone number , just in case!
Following up on yesterday’s closing words. here is the photographic translation of those words. do me a favor if you ever have the chance, go out at 6 am or earlier if it is a hot summer day and just walk the streets, zigzag the avenue’s, drink coffee at other then Starbucks, talk to the early risers, catch the rays in your eyes thru 4th street and live.
Its Magic!
take the subway to the madness.
slowly the Sunday city comes to live, tourist flood the streets and selfies rule !
Sorry !
A Pro , obviuosly
.
Central Park Selfie
After the madness of Times Square a quick 1 hour stroll thru the most unexpected piece of nature in New York. Central Park never disappoints.
Golden Sunlight
Finally the model I hired showed up in some raggedy red dress .So I shot her for a few minutes , then did a quicky Oriental wedding and ready to go home….. it was getting too hot for a dutch man.
the days are starting to blend together, so many impressions so many new and wonderful sights and sounds. So our days in Jersey City aka New York , look somewhat like this. we wake up , we walk to the PATH Train ( metro) , we get swallowed by the CITY. Then we find the PATH train and re-emerge at street level , Grove street ,Jersey City , aka decompression station. What ever happens across the river is one big wonderful , sweaty , smelly blend of wonderfulness.
The band was Wonderfull , the singers voice , for me, even better. Dinner was delicious , wine added to the festivities. After this we walked to the icon of the Empire State and waited patiently in lines for what seemed and hour. Glad I have such a patient companion, spouse, lover, best bud , and bestest friend in the whole world. We missed the sunset by 1 minute but still…. what a view, must have been more then a dozen visits and it does not get old. it never will for me.
!
We wanted to walk , they only let us walk 6 flights.
Our first taxi to the Village , best pizza at “Pizza Artichoke”, drink with an Irish lad and relaxed feeling on the busy streets. Taxi from MacDougal to Christopher , down to the PATH train, back to reality in Jersey City. What a great night.
Early morning in Manhattan, Sunday , it’s quiet, sunlight is spilling thru the canyons in your eyes , your walking towards the east ! Catch a little shade , walking north or south!
every block people are waking up , opening stores, one of a kind coffee shops are reaching out to you with their waking aroma. The smell of fresh baked bread beckons you for breakfast again. Seventh Avenue is closed off and vendors are unpacking their wares. I felt like Notting Hill, where Julia Roberts walks thru 4 seasons in four minutes, except my seasons are stages of readiness for a bustling streetmarket. What a city, the people make it , no one man can break it !
Images coming in the next post, I went a bit crazy with the amount of photos and now I’m stuck editing them.
The view from Jersey City Boardwalk, 10 minutes from our concrete park.
The first two days I explored downtown, the area around the fallen towers is up and emotional. Lots of new businesses , buildings, tourists and one amazing memorial.
The memorial brought back many memories , feelings and the realization how fast one forgets all the thoughts, emotions I had during those days and weeks following 9/11.
The OculusOculus Entrance at street levelShopping Cathedral.
The footprint of the North Tower
Burned and blackened , it came back to life .
everyone gets a flag on Independence Day and a white rose on their birthdays.
Good morning New York, how hard is ti to scribe the magic that is New York city?
This is one city where pictures don’t so it justice, yes you have amazing skylines, tall tall sky scrapers ,yellow colored streets going on and on, every type and quality of food imaginable, interesting people, there’s no stopping the superlatives. Still it doesn’t describe or explain the magic, is it the smells, the sticky air in summer, the ever vibrating streets where subway barrels back and forth. Arrived on the 3rd, celebrated the fourth with fireworks and a visit to the memorial. here are some impressions of our skyline during the fireworks.
